Zero landfill contribution is a daunting sustainability goal, but with its Fletcher Distribution Center also leading the way, Wilsonart is making strides in its waste reduction movement. In just three months, the distribution center went from producing 2,000 pounds of landfill waste per week to less than 150 pounds through greater efforts to recycle, compost and repurpose materials. Wilsonart’s Fletcher Distribution Center is on track to produce less than 500 pounds of landfill waste per month, a reduction of more than 90 percent. -
Texas-based Wilsonart announced today its partnership with the first-of-its-kind home improvement theme park, MainStreet America in Houston. Celebrating its grand opening week February 2-9, the 14-acre park aspires to educate and empower visitors to “move their home projects from inspiration to action,” and features the latest home improvement and product education, shopping experience and entertainment. Wilsonart® HD® High Definition® Laminate and Solid Surface products are featured in the Cape Pointe, Casa Lana, Centennial and Wakefield showcase homes.

Wilsonart International Holdings LLC announced the appointment ofTimothy J. O’Brien as President and Chief Executive Officer effective January 14, 2013. Mr. O’Brien, a former senior executive at SABIC Innovative Plastics, will also serve as a member of Wilsonart’s Board of Directors. At SABIC, Mr. O’Brien was responsible for the engineering resins business in the Americas and Europe. SABIC Innovative Plastics was founded in 2007 with the acquisition of GE Plastics by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation. He also served as General Manager of GE’s High Performance and Crystalline Polymers businesses, Senior Vice President for commercial finance computer leasing with GE Capital, and numerous management roles with GE Lighting where he began his GE career in 1985. Mr. O’Brien holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace College.

NSF International, in cooperation with Texas-based decorative surfacing product producer Wilsonart LLC, is developing a Product Category Rule (PCR) for residential countertops. This PCR will provide a science-based and internationally recognized method for reporting the environmental impact of residential countertop products and materials throughout their entire life cycle.
